“I am deeply saddened by the tragic events that unfolded this afternoon at Northern Illinois University . We are still gathering information, but my thoughts and prayers are with the students, the faculty and their families. I am very grateful for all the efforts of local law enforcement, hospital and emergency workers who are on the scene. The university is responding and communicating with students through electronic means and counseling is available at any residence hall. I encourage students to take advantage of the counseling.”
